Grikor Mirzaian Suni, composer, conductor, ethnomusicologist, and teacher, was steeped both in his own Armenian folk tradition and, later, European classical music. Gourgen (George) Suny (1910 Erzurum, Turkish Armenia -1995 Broomall, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.). Son of Grikor Mirzaian Suni, conductor of the Philadelphia Suni Chorus from 1940, and from 1971 conducted Armenian song and dance ensemble concerts in Philadelphia under the auspices of the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU). Siranoush (Siran) Suny Kazanjian (1903 St. Petersburg, Russia-1972 Philadelphia) was the eldest child of Grikor Mirzaian Suni and Nvart (Natasha) Sonyants Mirzaian Suni. Siran was born while her father was studying with Rimsky-Korsakov at the St. Petersburg Coservatory of Music. Siran Suni sang in her father’s choruses and performed as a dancer in Suni programs.
